The Garden Restaurant - My Summer in Croatia

My summer break in 2016 was spent in Croatia with my 4 girl friends. It was a great week full of tasty food, beach days, and sunshine. So here I want to show you the culinary experience that we had once in Croatia.

The "Garden" Restaurant in Rab town
This place has a nice romantic vibe, and you can sit inside but still feel the open air. We all tasted different fresh seafood dishes.

The squid goulash with polenta is their famous local dish. This is the dish that I ordered and I enjoyed ied it to the last bite.

The cattlefish risotto is simply delicious with squid bits in it
The fried calamary with french fries tasted so fresh

Seabass with sauted spinach and potatoes. Nothing could be better than a whole fresh fish in a holiday island

The green pasta with gorgonzola sauce. It was surprisingly not as heavy as she thought it would be

This place to me is the number one restaurant in the whole Rab island. I guess in total we paid around 500 kuna, which was really worth it. We also got free welcome drinks, and we could feel the love in all the food. Thumbs up to the chef!

Finally, I got engaged! - A story of Chinese Indonesian Engagement Ceremony

Hi guys! It has been so long since I wrote last time. Yes, the whole 2017-18 has been a busy year for me as I tried to get my life in Sydney settled. I can say that now I am based in Sydney. It is my life now, being together with Eugene (My fiance) who has lived here for almost all his life and working as a researcher which I found living in Sydney gives me a lot of opportunities to pursue this career. So, I am writing this post to tell you a story about my engagement, which was done in a very Chinese way, the ceremony, tradition, and of course some details of how the decision to get engaged was made. My fiance and I are both Indonesian (we were born in Indonesia) but we also come from family who still maintain Chinese tradition and rituals at home (e.g celebrating chinese new year, keeping an altar of our ancestors, finding good dates based on your chinese zodiac, etc.). I was told that 300  myyears ago, my great, great grandparents migrated from China to Indonesia. Some fami...

How to make Tempe in one go!

I love Tempe. At home in Bali, I ate Tempe almost everyday. Most of the time I ate them fried with salt and pepper, or with turmeric, coriander powder, or coated with crispy flour or breadcrumbs. The best one was when my mom fried the small tempe stripes and coated them in lemongrass, galangal, palm sugar sauce - Tempe Manis! Sometimes these days when I get creative, I also make a burger patty, katsu, schnitzel, and possibly any other way you want to have your meat cooked, but only using Tempe without losing the amount of protein! Tempe is a nutritious, soybean cake, originally from Indonesia. Unlike its sister tofu that's softer in texture, Tempe is more nutty and has a unique, funky, fermented taste. That's because it is made from the culture of Rhizopus sp. , a type of fungi.  The cost of 250 gram Tempe in Sydney is about $3.50. In Bali, this block of Tempe costs only 5000 IDR , which is about $0.50! So, you can imagine that I have to live in this irony for the last 4 years ...

10 things I will miss so much from Vienna

It’s Thursday, the 6 th of July 2017! Just another day of summer in Europe, and I am literally left with 3 days to enjoy my life in Vienna. Yes, the last 3 days of my time in Vienna out of 2 years, since I came in 2015. I received my master’s degree 3 days ago, and I am so excited to follow bigger opportunities in front of me. Of course, I will have to go back to Indonesia and finally start my PhD in Sydney. After this it will be a long time ahead to plan to come to Europe again (maybe for my honeymoon, haha) and I never know when I will come back. So, I want to list out things that I will definitely miss in Vienna, things that I have enjoyed and what this beautiful city has offered me. This list will contain mixture of places, sites, neighborhood, landmark, and most importantly…food. 1.        My lovely neighborhood, Landstrasse Landstrasse, oh I love this 3 rd district of Vienna. I am so lucky to be able to find a home here. My flat is in hafe...
