Easter Holiday: My first Disneyland experience!

Hello there everyone!

Happy Easter!

Hope you all had a great long Easter week, and finally tomorrow head back to school or work with a fresh start!

Alright, so, I would like to write about my experience; my first-time visit to Disneyland Paris.  This happened 3 days ago, because my sweet beloved Boyfriend is generous enough to pay for my ticket, plus it was also during the Easter break, and we decided to take a 3 day holiday to Paris. I can say that this is such a dream come true because last year, I only visited the city in less than 24 hours (as I went during my layover) and my boyfriend visited Paris alone too. Both of us thought that we should come back to this romantic city together and experience what we had missed before. Yippie!

We booked our flights from Vienna to Paris. The flight was early morning at 6:30 am and we could not catch the night bus, because we didn’t know the exact stop, and the metro has not started operating. After walking here and there, asking people around, We ran from schottenring towards Schwedenplatz and finally, my boyfriend quickly called the cab passing by. He drove us to Pratestern, and we paid him 7 euros. It was okay. From there we took the S7 to Flughafen Wien. Yeah… It was a bit hectic, as we got up at 3.30 am just to catch the only night public transport available that we ended up missing.

From there, everything goes smoothly and we got into the plane ,enjoyed the flight and the free snacks. I enjoyed  the Air Berlin flight considering its service and the price I paid, even though we booked the flight 2 days before we departed. I think it is pretty good.

We landed in Paris at around 8.45 am. I and my boyfriend tried to precede everything quickly because we wanted to get to Disney land soon and spend our whole day being kids again in the magical world. And  also because it was Friday and the ticket costs cheaper than those on Saturday. For more information about Disneyland Paris, you can visit http://www.disneylandparis.at/, and make sure you check out the Disney land map before your visit so that you can plan and decide which land or ride you want to experience, and it also saves time.

We arrived at our friends’ flat at around 9.30 am. We book his place from Air B&B, and it is pretty cool. The location is very central, near the Gare d’ lest and Republic station. The flat owner name is Jean-Baptiste and he is very friendly. I really recommend booking his air b&b platform because you get to stay with the locals with a reasonable price and it is the best way to get to know people and their culture. This is way better than staying at hostels, where you pay the same (around 10-15 euros / night) and sleep on bunk beds with other tourists.

After 20 minutes, we went out to the metro station and we bought tickets to travel to Marne la Valee Chessy – Disney land Paris which is located in Zone 5. The train ticket costs around 7 euros. And this was where another problem started. When we were in the train line RER A (red line), the train stopped at the first station of zone 3. The conductor suddenly told everyone “terminus…terminus…”, to empty the train. Everyone was wondering and feeling annoyed. Soon, there was an announcement telling that all the passengers going to Disneyland could proceed to exit gate 4. We could not understand the rest, as it was said in French. We followed the crowd, and you can imagine being in that situation. people tried pushing and getting their way through. Oh it was so unexpected. it was the last thing we wanted, we really just wanted to get to Disneyland as soon as possible otherwise, we would not be able to see all thewthe and rides.

Not long afterwards, there were 2 or 3 buses coming, to take people to their whatever destination from the RER A line. I bet everyone wanted to go to Disney land. There were many Chinese tourists, families with kids, so I and my boyfriend felt safe and we could just follow them too. Getting into the bus was another annoying thing. As soon as the door opened, people started rushing to get in, pushed each other. The bus accommodated as many people as it could, and during the ride, I could listen to the annoying talks of two tourists behind me. One little girl cried and was scared. This is where the Paris metro system was really screwed.

After 30 minutes in that crowded bus, we stopped at a station called Bussy. It was 2 stations away from Disneyland Chessy. I didn’t understand what happened but the bus driver told that from here we should get to our destination by means of other transport. That was really sickening, irresponsible, I really was disappointed by the Paris metro system. It was already almost 12 pm, and the driver could not just ruin these kids’ dream to go to Disney land. All passengers were stuck in that station, and the train line to go to the direction of Chessy was still closed. We were running around from another exit to the other, getting into the wrong bus, and people were standing in front of inquiry counter, hopelessly.

Finally because I have such a heroic boyfriend, he decided to call Uber. Thank God he has an account there, the driver arrived within 5 minutes. before that, we saw a lady with her daughter also running around the station. Actually, we were following them all the time, feeling sure that they also want to go to the same place. Then, I asked them to join us in the car share and luckily, they agreed. So we split the taxi cost. The ride from bussy to chessy was about 10 minutes and we paid 18 euros. It was better than wasting time in the station. The lady also had fun talking to the cab driver because they turned out to be from the same country, Algeria, or something.

Yeah, once again My boyfriend made not only my day but also that little girl’s day! Finally, we arrived at Disneyland Paris!!!

we really had fun trying all the rides, visiting the castle, all different worlds, also the parade and the magical show at the closing time (8 pm), which was not to be missed! My suggestion for the rides is to try all the roller coasters (Indiana jones, space mountain mission), they all have 360 loop inversion and very fun. The space mountain was very cool from the starting, it was a quick start as they launched you at high speed. Also, try the Alice’s labyrinth, snow white, Pinocchio, the haunted house, pirates of the Caribbean, buzz lightyear, and all of them (if you can). We had lunch at toad hill, in Fantasyland, where we bought double fish chips and veggie burger all for 25 euros!!! Kids will enjoy it!

At the end of the day, even though my feet hurt and we felt really tired, it was so memorable and because of my boyfriend, I was able to enjoy Disneyland and experience it for the first time. he is really the best gift in my life. and I am writing this, having him in my mind, how much I enjoyed the time we spent together. I am thankful for everything I have.

That was all about my first journey to Disneyland Paris. Until next time….

A Somber Visit to Dachau Concentration Camp

In July 2017, I had the chance to visit Dachau concentration camp when I was travelling in Munich. It was a memorable , a somber visit as I learned a lot about the world war history particularly during the time of Nazi occupation which has influenced the world we are are living in today. The buildings, the land , the whole  camp site brought out such cold, unfortunate, tormented atmosphere and everything took place there was clearly depicted in the museum and guided tours. For those who are not familiar with what a concentration camp is and its story during the Nazi occupation, here is a brief introduction: It was initially the camp built for the purpose to accommodate political prisoners when the Third Reich was founded in 1933. Adolf Hitler was the chancellor of this Reich and the leader of The National Socialist party. In the beginning of his dictatorship, things were settled to improve Hitler's power in Germany by killing the leader of the SA (Sturmabteilung...

My Mediterranean food story in Greece!

Hi Guys! Here is my food story from my short visit to Athens, Greece in summer 2016! My culinary experience in Athens was so unexpectedly great. At first I though it will be just about yogurt and salad, (hahaa, I mean the kind of food I was not raised with) but obviously it was more than simple seasoning! Greek food is similar to Turkish food or other middle eastern food which means that there are plenty of veggie options. There is something about how Greek food have all the ingredients combined, and produce the most amazing, unique taste, that you will never forget. In science we call this an "emergent" taste! >.<  Here I show you the timeline of my culinary journey in Athens. Of course when picking these places, I always google searched the most "local sounding", non pretentious kitchen that serves food from heart.  Day 1 Cretan food A place called "Kriti", Near Omonia Metro station   This is the amazing taste of wheat g...

Finally, I got engaged! - A story of Chinese Indonesian Engagement Ceremony

Hi guys! It has been so long since I wrote last time. Yes, the whole 2017-18 has been a busy year for me as I tried to get my life in Sydney settled. I can say that now I am based in Sydney. It is my life now, being together with Eugene (My fiance) who has lived here for almost all his life and working as a researcher which I found living in Sydney gives me a lot of opportunities to pursue this career. So, I am writing this post to tell you a story about my engagement, which was done in a very Chinese way, the ceremony, tradition, and of course some details of how the decision to get engaged was made. My fiance and I are both Indonesian (we were born in Indonesia) but we also come from family who still maintain Chinese tradition and rituals at home (e.g celebrating chinese new year, keeping an altar of our ancestors, finding good dates based on your chinese zodiac, etc.). I was told that 300  myyears ago, my great, great grandparents migrated from China to Indonesia. Some fami...
